Cradling What Remains

Cradling What Remains is a visual elegy for women living in the aftermath of conflict, displacement, and generational trauma. In each piece, a solitary figure stands veiled in shadow, embracing a vivid red form—sometimes a heart, sometimes a water jug, sometimes a vessel bearing the weight of memory. These objects are not only symbolic; they are sacred, representing love, loss, sustenance, and survival. What is held is never empty—it is full of what cannot be spoken aloud.

The heart pulses with enduring love. The jug echoes with the silence of daily resilience. The vessel becomes a body, a story, a soul. The act of holding—deliberate, solemn, and gentle—becomes an intimate language of care, one shaped by sorrow but rooted in strength.

What moves deeply in this series is the way each figure exists in quiet resistance. There is no cry for help, only the unshakable presence of women who carry grief and tenderness side by side. Their faces are often obscured or softened, not to erase identity but to invite the viewer in—to see not a single woman, but many. To see themselves.

There is profound dignity here. These women are guardians of what remains after devastation. They cradle what others might discard—memory, pain, love—as if to say: this still matters. Through fractured textures, vivid reds, and layers of shadow, the series reveals that even in loss, there is agency. Even in silence, there is truth.

Cradling What Remains is not about endings. It is about what endures in the arms of those who refuse to let go.
