The Weight of Wings
In The Weight of Wings, surrender becomes a quiet act of love—tender, deliberate, and unspoken. Through intimately intertwined forms, this series captures the breathless pause between presence and parting. Two figures often merge into one: one dark, one light, one bearing wings, the other resting in the curve of that shelter. Together, they become vessels of transition—between life and death, between holding on and letting go.
What moves most deeply is the paradox at the heart of each piece: the wings. Traditionally symbols of flight and transcendence, here they feel grounded—anchored by grief, heavy with memory. And yet, they are also gentle. They do not lift the figure away, but hold them close, as if to say: it is safe now. You can release.
The restrained palette—soft ivories, charred blacks, and earthy ochres—echoes the vulnerability of bare emotion. The bowed heads, closed eyes, and serene expressions resist drama, offering instead the dignity of quiet departure. These are not images of loss, but of care. Of final gestures. Of a long-held burden at last being placed down.
The Weight of Wings does not seek to explain death or transcendence. It offers no grand answers. Instead, it gives us a moment—slow, reverent, and tender—where surrender is not collapse, but an arrival. A folding inward. A final embrace.
