Presence in Absence
Presence in Absence is a meditative portrait series that explores the fragmented nature of identity in the aftermath of trauma and displacement. Each figure, rendered in profile and wrapped in translucent, gauze-like layers, exists in a liminal space—between visibility and concealment, presence and memory. Their closed eyes suggest not sleep, but inward retreat: a quiet reckoning with what has been endured.
The visual language of this series—ghosted contours, softened shadows, and layered transparency—speaks to the complexity of internal experience. The veils serve as both protective barrier and intimate archive, holding within them traces of grief, silence, and resilience. The figures do not seek to declare themselves outwardly; instead, they invite us to witness the subtle unfolding of an inner world shaped by loss and remembrance.
Through repetition and variation, this body of work reflects the universal yet deeply personal process of self-reconstruction. It honors the unseen stories carried within us—those that are never spoken aloud, but remain etched in the stillness of our being.
The Split Reverie
Two faces inhabit one form: one clear and serene, the other obscured and veiled in deep shadow. This doubling evokes a ghostlike presence—the echo of a past self or the burden of another’s grief carried within. Their shared outline and unified gaze speak to an inner dialogue that never ceases, where identity is fluid and bound by memory. Split Reverie holds space for the simultaneous presence of what is remembered and what remains.
